2025 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Lifted with 17×8.5 Black Rhino Vanguard & 265/70R17 Tires

2025 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Wheel and Tire Setup

This 2025 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter runs a square set of 17×8.5 Black Rhino Vanguard wheels finished in matte black and paired with 265/70R17 tires. The +25mm offset gives the van a substantially wider stance than the narrow factory wheel package while the lifted suspension adds the clearance and proportions that work especially well on an adventure-oriented Sprinter build.

The Black Rhino Vanguard uses a heavy-duty cast aluminum construction with a 3,300 pound load rating in this 17×8.5 Sprinter fitment. That makes wheel load capacity especially important on a platform that may regularly carry passengers, cargo, camper equipment or other added weight.

Factory vs New Specs

A common factory configuration on the 2025 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 uses 16×6.5 wheels with LT245/75R16 tires. This build moves to a wider 17×8.5 wheel and a 265/70R17 tire.

Factory Tire Height: A 245/75R16 measures approximately 30.5 inches tall.

New Tire Height: The 265/70R17 measures approximately 31.6 inches tall, adding roughly 1.1 inches of overall tire diameter.

Ground Clearance: The larger tire adds approximately 0.57 inch of static ground clearance from tire radius alone. The suspension lift raises the body, frame and other chassis components farther beyond that tire-related gain.

Tire Width: Nominal section width increases from 245mm to 265mm, giving the Sprinter a broader tire footprint and a noticeably more substantial appearance.

Wheel Width: Wheel width increases from approximately 6.5 inches to 8.5 inches, adding 2 inches of total wheel width at each corner.

Offset and Wheel Position

The Black Rhino Vanguard uses a +25mm offset, considerably lower than the high positive offset used by the factory Sprinter wheel. The combination of the lower offset and additional wheel width moves the outside edge of the wheel approximately 2.1 inches farther toward the fender per side.

Interestingly, the additional width does not dramatically reduce clearance on the suspension side. Most of the visual change happens toward the outside of the van, which is why the new setup looks so much wider and more planted compared with the narrow factory wheels.

The wheel centerline itself moves outward by approximately 29mm per side from the offset change, increasing the effective track width by a little over 2.25 inches overall.

Fitment and Stance

The 17×8.5 +25 setup gives the Sprinter a much more substantial footprint without moving to an unnecessarily large wheel diameter. Keeping the wheel at 17 inches leaves plenty of tire sidewall, which suits a lifted van designed for everyday driving, travel and rougher road conditions.

The 265/70R17 tire also fills considerably more of the wheel opening than the factory setup. Combined with the lifted suspension, the finished van looks taller, wider and more capable without losing the practical proportions that make a Sprinter useful.

The wider wheel position is noticeable at the fenders, but the setup still maintains a purposeful adventure-van appearance rather than the exaggerated stance produced by zero or negative offset wheels.

Fitment Notes

Rubbing: The lifted suspension provides additional clearance for the 265/70R17 tire, but clearance should still be checked through full steering lock and suspension compression. Exact results can vary based on tire model, lift height, vehicle weight and alignment.

Trimming: Major body modification should not normally be necessary with this combination on a properly lifted Sprinter. Depending on the exact tire and suspension setup, minor clearance work around the front liner or mud flap area may still be required.

Wheel Position: The +25mm Vanguard sits substantially farther outward than the factory wheel. This is one of the biggest visual changes in the build and helps fill the Sprinter’s wheel arches much more effectively.

Lift: This particular Sprinter uses a lifted suspension, providing additional room for the taller tires and contributing to the adventure-van stance. Final clearance should always be verified with the actual suspension height and vehicle load.

Load Capacity: Wheel and tire load ratings are especially important on the Sprinter platform. The 17×8.5 Black Rhino Vanguard used in this application carries a 3,300 pound wheel load rating, making it suitable for heavy-duty van applications when matched with properly rated tires.

Ride and Drivability

The 265/70R17 retains a substantial amount of sidewall, helping absorb impacts from rough pavement and providing more protection for the wheel than a larger diameter, low-profile setup.

The new tire is approximately 3.7 percent larger in diameter than a 245/75R16 factory tire. That slightly increases effective gearing and can create a small difference between indicated and actual road speed.

The wider tire and more outward wheel position can also make the van feel more planted, although steering effort and road feedback may increase slightly compared with the narrow factory wheel and tire package.
