Tire Size Calculator FAQ
How do I use the Fitment Dynamics tire size calculator?
Enter your tire’s width in millimeters, aspect ratio, and rim diameter in inches. The tool instantly displays overall diameter, section width, sidewall height, and revolutions per mile so you can verify proper fitment.
What do width, aspect ratio, and rim diameter mean?
The first number (width) is the tire’s width in millimeters. The second number (aspect ratio) is the sidewall height as a percentage of the width. The last number represents the wheel diameter in inches that the tire mounts onto.
How much can I change my tire size safely?
We recommend staying within ±3% of your current overall diameter. Exceeding this range can affect speedometer accuracy, ABS, traction control, and fender or suspension clearance.
Will changing tire size affect my speedometer?
Yes. Larger diameters make your speedometer read slower; smaller diameters make it read faster. The comparison tool displays the estimated percentage difference so you can choose the correct size with confidence.
Do I need new wheels to change tire size?
Not always. Many tire sizes fit your existing wheels if the new tire falls within the approved rim-width range. If you’re unsure, schedule a fitment check at Fitment Dynamics and we’ll confirm compatibility in person.
Do I need an alignment after changing tire size or lift height?
We strongly recommend an alignment whenever you change tire size, wheel offset, suspension height, or major steering components. Proper alignment prevents uneven wear and ensures safe handling.
Does this calculator work for lifted or leveled trucks?
Yes. The calculator works for stock, leveled, and lifted vehicles. It shows how new tire sizes change diameter and clearance—helping us determine whether trimming, spacers, or different offsets are needed.
Can Fitment Dynamics help me pick the right size or install the tires?
Absolutely. Once you select a size, our team can recommend specific tires, verify fitment, and handle mounting, balancing, and TPMS service. Contact us at Fitment Dynamics to get started.
