2023 Ford F150 Raptor Wheel and Tire Setup
This 2023 Ford F150 Raptor takes the truck’s already aggressive factory proportions and pushes them considerably farther with a true 40 inch tire setup. The build runs 17×8.5 KMC IMS wheels with a -10mm offset wrapped in 40×12.50R17 tires, giving the Raptor a much taller and wider footprint while retaining plenty of sidewall for off road use.
The 17 inch wheel diameter keeps the tire as the dominant part of the setup, which suits the Raptor’s desert inspired suspension and bodywork. Combined with the lifted suspension, the larger tires fill the wheel openings and give the truck a substantially more aggressive stance than the factory 35 inch configuration.
Factory vs New Specs
A 2023 Ford F150 Raptor leaves the factory on approximately 35 inch tires. Moving to 40×12.50R17 tires adds close to 5 inches of overall tire diameter and makes a significant difference in both ground clearance and overall vehicle height.
Tire Height: The move from approximately 35 inch factory tires to 40 inch tires adds roughly 5 inches of overall diameter.
Ground Clearance: The larger tire alone can add approximately 2 to 2.5 inches of clearance beneath the axle centerline before accounting for the additional height provided by the suspension lift.
Wheel Size: The 17×8.5 KMC IMS provides a strong match for a 12.50 inch wide tire while maintaining the large sidewall that makes this setup work visually and functionally on the Raptor.
Offset: The -10mm offset moves the wheel farther outward than the factory position. Combined with the wider tire, the setup moves roughly an inch farther outward per side compared with the original wheel and tire package.
Track Width: The lower offset and larger tire footprint give the Raptor a noticeably wider stance, helping the 40 inch tires fill the factory fenders instead of sitting deeply inside them.
Fitment and Stance
The 40×12.50R17 tire changes the entire proportion of the truck. The additional tire height raises the Raptor while the -10mm wheel offset pushes the package outward, creating a wider and more squared off appearance at each corner.
This setup sits slightly outside the factory fender line rather than fully tucked. Expect approximately an inch of outward presence depending on the exact tire construction and final alignment.
The combination of a 17 inch wheel and 40 inch tire also leaves a substantial amount of sidewall, which fits the purpose of the Raptor much better than moving to an oversized wheel with a shorter tire.
Fitment Notes
Rubbing: Some rubbing can be expected at full steering lock or during heavy suspension compression with a 40 inch tire. The front inner fender liner and lower plastic areas are the primary places to inspect.
Trimming: Light trimming of the inner liner or lower plastic may be required to provide enough clearance for the 40×12.50R17 tires through the full steering and suspension range.
Poke: The -10mm offset creates approximately an inch of outward presence beyond the factory wheel position, giving the Raptor a more aggressive stance without pushing the wheels excessively far from the body.
Lift: A suspension lift is an important part of running 40 inch tires on this application. A setup in the 2 to 3 inch range combined with the Raptor’s existing suspension travel provides the additional space needed for a tire this large.
Stock Suspension: This is not intended as a stock height fitment. The 40 inch tire requires additional suspension clearance, and attempting to run the same combination without a lift would substantially increase rubbing and trimming requirements.
Ride and Drivability
The move to a 40 inch tire changes the way the Raptor responds on the road. Steering can feel slower because of the additional tire height and rotating mass, while the wider track and larger footprint give the truck a more planted feel.
The larger tires also raise the overall center of gravity, which is worth keeping in mind during quicker direction changes. Off road, however, the additional sidewall and ground clearance are exactly where this type of setup delivers its biggest advantage.
The taller overall tire diameter also changes effective gearing compared with the factory 35 inch setup, so acceleration and transmission behavior may feel different depending on the rest of the drivetrain configuration.
