2022 Volkswagen Golf R Stock Height with 19×8.5 Niche Gamma & 245/35R19 Tires

2022 Volkswagen Golf R Wheel and Tire Setup

This 2022 Volkswagen Golf R runs a square set of 19×8.5 Niche Gamma wheels finished in gloss black and wrapped in 245/35R19 tires at all four corners. The car remains at factory ride height on its original adaptive suspension, keeping the build subtle while giving the Mk8 Golf R a wider and more finished stance.

The Gamma keeps the same 19 inch diameter as the factory wheel but adds half an inch of width. Paired with the wider 245 tire, the setup fills the fender line more effectively without dramatically changing the proportions or everyday character of the car.

Factory vs New Specs

The 2022 Volkswagen Golf R comes factory equipped with a 19 inch wheel and 235/35R19 tire package. This setup keeps the same wheel diameter while adding width to both the wheel and tire.

Factory Wheel: Approximately 19×8 with a +50mm offset.

Factory Tire: 235/35R19, measuring approximately 25.5 inches tall.

New Wheel: 19×8.5 Niche Gamma at all four corners.

New Tire: 245/35R19, measuring approximately 25.8 inches tall.

Wheel Diameter: Remains at 19 inches.

Wheel Width: Increases from approximately 8 inches to 8.5 inches.

Tire Width: Nominal width increases from 235mm to 245mm.

Bolt Pattern: 5×112.

Factory Hub Bore: 57.1mm.

Wheel Hardware: M14×1.5 wheel bolts with the proper seat type for the aftermarket wheel.

Tire Diameter and Ride Height

The factory 235/35R19 tire measures approximately 25.48 inches tall, while the 245/35R19 measures approximately 25.75 inches.

That is an increase of only about 0.28 inch in overall diameter, or roughly 1.1 percent. Static ground clearance increases by approximately 0.14 inch from tire radius alone.

The small diameter change keeps the Golf R very close to its factory gearing and ride height while providing a slightly wider footprint and a little more sidewall.

Speedometer difference is minimal. At an indicated 60 mph, actual road speed would be approximately 60.6 mph with the 245/35R19 tire.

Offset and Wheel Position

The exact offset used on this particular build should be verified from the wheel before being treated as a confirmed specification. Niche offers the 19×8.5 Gamma in both +35mm and +42mm 5×112 configurations.

For a stock-height Mk8 Golf R, the +42mm version provides the more conservative fitment. Compared with a factory-style 19×8 +50 wheel, a 19×8.5 +42 moves the outside wheel edge approximately 14mm, or about 0.56 inch, farther toward the fender.

Despite the additional half inch of wheel width, inner clearance remains very close to factory because the lower offset moves the wheel outward. This creates a fuller stance without unnecessarily pushing the wheel deep toward the suspension.

Fitment and Stance

The 19×8.5 wheel and 245/35R19 tire combination is a natural upgrade for the Mk8 Golf R because it retains the original 19 inch diameter while giving the car a wider footprint.

The additional wheel width gives the 245 tire a more square profile than the factory 235 tire while bringing the outside of the package closer to the fender edge.

At stock ride height, the result is an OEM-plus appearance rather than an exaggerated stance. The wheel opening looks fuller, but the car maintains the proportions and suspension travel Volkswagen intended.

Fitment Notes

Suspension: Stock ride height with the factory adaptive suspension retained.

Tire Size: 245/35R19 is a commonly used upgrade on 19×8.5 Golf R wheels and remains very close to the factory overall tire diameter.

Offset: A +42mm Gamma is the more conservative choice for this application. The +35mm version moves the wheel farther outward and creates a more aggressive front fitment.

Rubbing: A 19×8.5 wheel with 245/35R19 tires is commonly used at stock height, but clearance can vary slightly by tire model and offset. The front fender liner and upper fender screw area should be checked through full steering and suspension compression.

Poke: With a conservative +42mm offset, the setup sits much closer to the fender edge than the factory wheel without creating the excessive poke associated with lower-offset configurations.

Hub Fitment: The Niche Gamma uses a larger center bore than the Golf R’s 57.1mm hub, so the proper hub-centric rings should be used during installation.

Niche Gamma Wheels

The Niche Gamma is a one-piece cast aluminum wheel with a concave multi-spoke design. The 19×8.5 size provides additional visual depth compared with the narrower factory wheel while still fitting naturally within the compact proportions of the Golf R.

The gloss black finish works especially well with the Mk8’s aggressive front fascia, black trim and performance-focused styling while allowing the factory brake package to remain visible behind the spokes.

Ride and Drivability

Because wheel diameter remains at 19 inches and tire diameter changes by only about one percent, the character of the car stays very close to stock.

The slightly wider 245 tire creates a broader contact patch while maintaining enough sidewall for a daily-driven Golf R. Steering response remains direct, while the additional tire width complements the traction provided by the R-Performance 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system.

The 2022 Golf R produces 315 horsepower from its turbocharged 2.0 liter engine, so the modest increase in tire width is well matched to the performance capability of the platform. Volkswagen’s Mk8 Golf R uses a rear-axle torque-vectoring 4MOTION system designed to actively distribute power between the rear wheels.
