Most R1S factory configurations use the same tire size at all four positions. The 22-inch Super Sport package is different because it uses wider rear tires and a higher-performance specification.

Do not order four matching 275/50R22 tires for an R1S equipped with the staggered Super Sport package. Confirm the wheel design, existing front and rear sizes and tire-and-loading label before ordering.

Choosing the Right Rivian R1S Tires

The 20-inch All-Season package is generally the best option for owners who primarily drive on pavement and prioritize comfort, range and tread life. The 20-inch All-Terrain package provides the most sidewall protection and off-road capability. Its approximately 34-inch tire diameter and all-terrain tread are better suited to trails and rough surfaces, but the added weight and aggressive tread may reduce range and increase road noise.

The first-generation 21-inch Road package was developed around range and efficiency. Replacement options in 275/55R21 are more limited than the 20 and 22-inch sizes, making availability an important consideration for R1S owners.

The 22-inch Range and Sport packages provide more immediate on-road response and a premium appearance. Their shorter sidewalls offer less protection against potholes and road hazards than the 20-inch packages.

Rivian R1S Load Capacity

Load capacity is one of the most important considerations when replacing R1S tires. Many factory applications use a load index of 115 or 116, while certain newer 22-inch tires use HL construction.

HL means High Load. An HL tire is engineered to carry more weight at a given size and pressure than a conventional tire in the same dimensions. Do not replace an HL tire with a lower-capacity tire solely because both sidewalls display 275/50R22.

The replacement tire must meet or exceed the load and speed requirements printed on the vehicle’s tire-and-loading label.

Rivian Approved Tire Markings

Certain original-equipment Rivian tires may carry a RIV manufacturer marking, ELECT designation or vehicle-specific acoustic technology. These markings identify tires developed for Rivian requirements such as load capacity, efficiency, handling and noise.

A non-RIV tire may still be suitable if it meets the required size, load, speed and construction specifications. However, it may behave differently in range, road noise, steering response or ride quality.
