Both factory sizes carry an LT designation, identifying them as light truck tires. The Hummer EV requires substantial tire load capacity because of its extreme vehicle weight.

Do not replace an LT tire with a passenger tire simply because the dimensions appear similar. The replacement tire’s load range, load index and inflation requirements must be appropriate for the Hummer EV and meet the specifications shown on its tire information placard.

35 Inch Overall Diameter

The 18 and 22 inch factory tire packages both maintain an overall diameter of approximately 35 inches. The 18 inch configuration achieves this with considerably more sidewall, while the 22 inch configuration uses a shorter sidewall.

Changing the overall tire diameter can affect speedometer readings, ground clearance, braking, driver assistance systems and suspension operation. Nonfactory sizes require a complete fitment evaluation.

Vehicle Weight and Shop Equipment

The Hummer EV can weigh more than 9,000 pounds depending on its configuration. Tire service requires lifting equipment, tire machines and balancing equipment capable of safely handling the vehicle, its large wheels and heavy LT tires.

The vehicle must be raised only at the approved lifting points using equipment with sufficient capacity. This is not a vehicle that should be serviced using light duty equipment.

TPMS and Vehicle Calibration

Each wheel uses a tire pressure monitoring sensor. After tire or wheel service, the sensors may require relearning so the vehicle correctly identifies each wheel position.

Changing wheel diameter or tire dimensions can also affect vehicle calibration. Factory approved wheel and tire combinations are recommended unless the complete setup has been evaluated properly.

Tire Rotation

Both original equipment sizes use a square configuration, allowing the tires to be rotated between the front and rear positions in most cases. Regular rotation is particularly important because the Hummer EV’s weight and torque can accelerate treadwear.

GMC specifically recommends routine tire rotation for its factory all-terrain and mud-terrain tires. Directional tread patterns and a full size spare can affect the appropriate rotation pattern.

Alignment and Four Wheel Steering

The Hummer EV uses four wheel steering and an adaptive air suspension system. Incorrect alignment can produce rapid or uneven wear on these expensive 35 inch tires.

Alignment should be checked if the vehicle develops steering pull, an off-center steering wheel, inner or outer shoulder wear, or irregular tread patterns. Ride height and the manufacturer’s specified alignment procedures must be considered during service.

All-Terrain Versus Mud-Terrain Tires

LT305/55R22 All-Terrain Tires

The 22 inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT is the better factory configuration for owners who spend most of their time on paved roads. It provides a more road-oriented tread pattern while retaining the rugged appearance and light off-road capability expected from a Hummer.

The shorter sidewall offers more direct steering response but provides less cushioning against potholes, curbs and road debris.

LT305/70R18 Mud-Terrain Tires

The 18 inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT is designed for the Extreme Off-Road Package. Its taller sidewall and aggressive tread provide additional protection and traction on loose or uneven terrain.

Mud-terrain tires normally create more road noise and rolling resistance than all-terrain tires. They may also wear differently and deliver less predictable wet pavement performance as the tread becomes worn.

Choosing GMC Hummer EV Tires for Miami Driving

Hummer EV owners in Miami should prioritize load capacity, wet braking, hydroplaning resistance and heat durability. These considerations are especially important when combining a vehicle weighing several tons with South Florida’s heavy rainfall and high road temperatures.

Drivers who primarily use their Hummer EV on pavement will generally be better served by a highway focused all-terrain tire. Owners who regularly drive in mud, sand or demanding off-road conditions may prefer the additional traction and sidewall provided by the 18 inch mud-terrain configuration.
